Young Birds Progressing

Over the last week I continued to let my young birds out of the loft at least once each day.  Through the weekend, I was able to let them out both in the morning and evening.  Early in the week, many of the birds were reluctant to get up and fly.  They spent a lot of time on top of the loft.  Each day more of these racing pigeons increased in boldness and began to fly.  These initial flights were very random and at times there were pigeons flying every which way as the video below will show…

Last night the weather was perfect for flying pigeons.  These birds are getting more and more confident and are eager to get out of the loft and take flight.  They are starting to kit up and fly in groups.  We are making some good progress.  I very much enjoy watching these birds fly…

A funny thing happened last night.  I was watching the birds and turned around to see someone walking towards the loft in my back yard.  It happened to be one of the old members of the Ogden Club who no longer keeps racing pigeons.  He noticed all those birds in the air and decided to come see who was flying them.  His daughter lives a few streets over and he was in the neighborhood visiting.  We had a good chat.  Always fun to talk pigeons with other fliers.  Thanks for stopping by Dean!

I’ll continue to let these young racing pigeons loft fly until they begin to route and disappear for periods of time.  Once that happens, I’ll get them going down the road starting with very short tosses.

Until next time…

-Rob
